On the 1st of November 2019, Hong Ngoc IVF Center attended a scientific conference to discuss the topic “Morphological and genetic research – Clinical applications and reproductive assistance” which took place in Institute of Indigenous Medicine, Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang.
The 17th National Morphological Sciences conference is an event jointly organized by the Vietnam Society of Morphology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy – Thai Nguyen University, and Institute of Indigenous Medicine. The main topic of this conference is “Morphological and genetic research – Clinical applications and reproductive assistance”.
Attending the conference in Ha Giang this time, Hong Ngoc IVF Center has presented two reports related to the main topic. It was the report on “Genetic viewpoint for the treatment of male infertility” by Director of Hong Ngoc IVF Center Ivan Reich and “Artificial Intelligence in IVF” by embryologist Hoang Thi Thuan.
Genetic viewpoint for the treatment of male infertility – Director of Hong Ngoc IVF Center Ivan Reich
According to the statistics of World Health Organization (WHO), infertility is at the 3rd place for dangerous diseases (after cancer and heart disease) in the 21st century. Vietnam is currently one of the countries with the highest rate of infertility in the world.
In the report, Dr. Ivan Reich has pointed out that among the causes of infertility, 40% of which come from male. In particular, the causes of male infertility include endogenous and exogenous factors. For endogenous factors, the genetic fragmentation, chromosome abnormalities, Y chromosome loss, CFTR mutation and other mutations are emphasized.
Through the report, doctors of Hong Ngoc IVF Center can also address the importance of comprehensive semen analysis. Only by analyzing based on specific figures can doctors:
– Correctly diagnose the causes of male infertility
– Propose additional tests to identify and diagnose (karyotype, CF mutation screening, Y chromosome missing, gene polymorphism and FSH receptor for hormonal treatment, etc.)
– Explain the possible causes of infertility and the genetic risk of infertility, recurrent miscarriage and genetic diseases of their children.
– Orientations for treating male infertility
– Antioxidant
– FSH endocrine therapy with low dose which will last according to genotype then indicate appropriate IVF method: (ICSI, TESE for cases of azoospermia, MACS / PICSI for PGT-A, for cystic fibrosis (CF) disease, etc.)
Artificial Intelligence in IVF – Embryologist Hoang Thi Thuan
In this report, Embryologist Hoang Thi Thuan presented the applications of artificial intelligence in medicine in general and in IVF in particular.
Especially, the applications of artificial intelligence can assist doctors in examination, tests and diagnosis. The examination process will be simpler, quicker with high precision.
Accordingly, there is a number of artificial intelligence applications such as diagnostic aids; devise treatment regimens, reading electronic medical records and managing big data (Watson, IBM); image analysis (pathology) and scanning (magnetic resonance imaging); medication tracking and prescription, etc.
Among the reproductive assistance methods, the applications of artificial intelligence is now widely used and becoming more and more common. It is applied in semen analysis, allowing doctors to easily identify high-quality semen, as well as predicting dividing embryos or the quality of blastocysts.
On top of that, applying artificial intelligence helps improve embryo selection as well as optimizing ovarian stimulation and screening genetic embryos.
Also in this report, Embryologist Hoang Thi Thuan highly praised the impact of artificial intelligence on IVF method. The inclusion of artificial intelligence software in the IVF implementation has helped improve the quality and increase the success rate of each treatment cycle.
In addition, the assistance of equipment and advanced technology will reduce the subjectivity of the implementer, thus developing individualized treatment regimens for each patient to get rid of unnecessary tests as well as help focus on the definitive treatment of diseases affecting the childbirth process.
Artificial intelligence also affects scientific research methods. In the era of “big data”, the analytical data will be highly accurate with convincing evidence.
